Voices of ASME: The Unscripted Conversation with G-Jay Yong, Founder of myFirst

We’re proud to share that our Founder and CEO, G-Jay Yong, was recently featured in ASME’s Unscripted Conversation, a series celebrating the inspiring journeys of Singapore’s entrepreneurs and business leaders.

In this feature, titled “The Crazy Decision,” G-Jay talks about the bold and unconventional choices that shaped myFirst’s journey including one of his biggest leaps yet: building a Made-in-Singapore manufacturing line in just 13 weeks.

Turning a Crazy Decision into a Calculated Leap

When global tariffs created uncertainty for many tech companies, G-Jay and his team made what seemed like a #crazydecision to move production to Singapore. Rather than following the conventional path, they saw potential in agility, stability, and the spirit of innovation that Singapore stands for.

“We knew time was running out, and fast decisions are more important than perfect ones,” shared G-Jay. “If we decide together, we make it happen together.”

The move paid off not just as a business decision, but as a testament to what happens when courage meets clarity.

Building a Brand for the Next Generation

In the interview, G-Jay also reflects on the origins of myFirst. It all began when his two-year-old daughter wanted to use his DSLR camera and he realized that children deserved real technology, not toy gadgets.

That moment sparked the creation of myFirst, a brand dedicated to building a safe and empowering kids tech ecosystemfor the next generation.

“Kids deserve a real tech product. myFirst represents their first digital touchpoint whether it’s their first camera, first phone, or first headphones.”

Leading with Conviction and Balance

Beyond business strategy, G-Jay opens up about leadership, burnout, and balance. He shares how he encourages his team to prioritize family time, trust each other more, and work efficiently rather than endlessly.

“We are a kids tech company, family always comes first,” says G-Jay. “Work hard, play hard, but don’t forget what truly matters.”

Advice for Dreamers and Risk-Takers

When asked what advice he would give to others facing a bold decision, G-Jay shared:

“If it’s more than 50%, go ahead. If it’s 50/50, trust your gut. Always have a Plan B and C, but give your team full confidence to fight through Plan A.”

His story is a reminder that innovation doesn’t just come from technology it comes from the courage to make decisions that others might call crazy, but you know are right.
